It’s Time to Start a Home Workout Routine!

Home workout has got to be the most undervalued means to health and fitness. People always say the reason they can’t exercise is that they don’t have time or money. It turns out, those are just excuses. They use these kinds of excuses to justify staying out of shape, unfit and unhealthy because:

1. For some reason, they don’t know how important fitness is to their survival. They see fitness as an extracurricular activity reserved only for those who ‘need to look good’ on the outside. Little do they know that physical fitness is a basic human need.

2. They’re stuck in the gym box and can’t think out of it.  They associate gym membership with fitness, otherwise, nothing else matters.

Advantages of home workout

When you decide to start working out at home, you’re hitting so many birds with one stone. In essence:

  • You have made a proactive move to take care of your health and fitness for your own ultimate survival.
  • You have decided to stop throwing your money away on expensive gym membership.
  • You have decided to stop wasting time in crazy traffic.
  • You have decided to babysit your own kids (better yet, work out with them) and watch your own TV while you exercise.

Congratulations! It doesn’t matter whether your home workout routine involves squeezing in a few jump-ropes as you warm the food in the microwave; or do a couple of sit-ups on the bed before or after your nap. The important thing is you decided to do something.

You have finally figured a way to stop over-complicating your life and do something about your shape.

Next steps for home workout

1. You don’t know what kind of workout you can do at home until google “home exercises.” If we were to rank the best home exercise activities Yoga would be our number one recommendation.

We dedicated whole articles to yoga where we discuss the types, benefits for your mind, body and spirit, and misconceptions.

2. The next thing to think about is how to avoid injury at all costs.

If you googled home exercises, you probably saw images of people jumping up and down on padded mats that are designed to eliminate shock and avoid injury.

We emphasize injury because it’s the number two killer of shape and fitness, right after indecision.

Folding mats. Click on image for details.

So, before you start jumping up and down or rolling on your carpet (not to mention bare hardwood), you should, at a bare minimum,  consider making a small investment in the form of a mat.

Make sure the mat is at least 1/4 inch thick.

Check out some of the recommended mats here.

Look out for lifetime guarantee on the mats.
